Our Grand Vacation - Day 1

I decided to take a week off this year to spend with my two grandsons, Brody (3) and Barrett (1). I planned a few things we could do on this Grand vacation and on Monday morning just the three of us started our vacation while Joan and Staci continued working on taxes and Mike went to work downtown! We were all three excited about the week. Brody and Barrett stopped to play in the Mustang as we headed out.

Our first stop was the Science and History museum with the special kid's area that is all hands-on.

The boys found the little grocery store and went right to work filling the shopping cart.

The museum has an XTO Energy movie and display about natural gas. Brody and Barrett were a bit scared during the movie because the seats moved and the 3D glasses were a hassle. The big valves were fun to play with though.

And the large scale model of the gase drilling rig was really interesting to the kids.

XTO put one of their earth shaking trucks on display at the musem.

Brody and Barrett got to play with a seismograph - making their own shock waves!

In the historic toys display I spotted two toys that were important to Cindy and me when we were growing up. The first was a Chatty Cathy doll. Cindy was very scared of this doll and looking at it now I see why! Look at those eyes!

The other was a game I remember playing as a kid - Cooties!

The museum had all kinds of toys the boys could build with.

Brody and Barrett were able to play doctor with their own ambulance!

Barrett even got to drive the ambulance.

Next we caught the I-Max showing specifically designed for toddlers - Animalopolus. The boys were both scared at first but as soon as the show started they were laughing and having a good time.

After the show we went back to the museum and studied the dinasaurs.

Barrett found a dinasaur just his size. He stared it down!

We checked in to the Hilton - otherwise known as Ann's Hotel.

Brody and Barrett were very excited about swimming in the hotel swimming pool. They changed into their swim trunks very quickly and were ready to go down the elevator.

The pool water was nice but the hot tub was even nicer!

Tyler surprised the boys by showing up just as they finished swimming. Ann and Tyler decided to take us out to dinner tonight!

Ann took us on a tour of her office and the boys met some very important people that run the hotel. Then we all went to Chik-fil-A to eat and let the boys play on the playground.

We said goodbye to Ann and Tyler and headed back over to the hotel. Back on the 8th floor we got ready for bed and then Brody looked out the window and said "could we go over to Bass Pro Shop?" Why not? I put the boys clothes on over their PJs and we walked over to Bass Pro and did a little shopping until the stoor closed.

Brody was getting very good at controlling the elevator!

He also could find our room and use the key card to get in.

Brody claimed the easy chair but I still made him get in bed. I wondered if I was making a mistake skipping their nap and then letting them stay up until 10:30 but it was vacation!

Barrett was the first one ready for bed. It had been a very fun day!!!

Ah. Now I understand. Brody told me that the Imax seats shook...I didn't realize there were 2 movies! They had so much fun with you. Thank you soooo much for taking time off work just to spend a week with our boys! You're definitely the world's best grandfather! We're all so blessed to have you in our lives!

Okay, it is June 8.....I have clicked on your blog so many times and I just keep seeing your vacation....nothing about your new house. I am starting to believe you started a new blog and didn't tell me about it....just like you never told me you were moving, or that you moved. I feel so cut off from your life!
