Fort Stockton - San Diego, CA on Saturday

Joan and I left our Coronado Island hotel on Saturday to do a little sight seeing in San Diego. After spending most of the morning at Old Town visiting with the local people re-enacting the Mormon Battalion we then drove up the hill behind Old Town and followed a scenic drive. It led us to a mission on one of the highest hills in San Diego.

We hiked around the top of the hill and found the site of Fort Stockton, which was occupied briefly by the Mormon Battalion as they protected San Diego.

Joan was enthusiastic about hiking around the hill even though her knee was hurting her. I loved the big palm tree next to the stairs.

Joan found a bench big enough for both of us to sit on and enjoy the view ;-)

We really enjoyed Saturday in San Diego. We met so many nice people in Old Town and learned a new part of California's history.

Joan really enjoyed reading the paper on our hotel balcony overlooking the Coronado Bay!
