Fish Hatching and Old Growth Forests

Our next stop was Olympia, the capital city of Washington state. We ate at a great seafood place right downtown and then drove around the city and saw the sights - which included the Capitol building. We spent the night in the hotel - this one was nothing special but we did get rest and we left the hotel right after breakfast. Our first stop on the way to the Olympic National Rain Forest was a fish hatchery. We were the only ones there besides the fish.

Joan is wondering if the high fence is to keep the fish in or the birds out...
The drive through the forest was fantastic.  We stopped for a walk in the old growth forest and spent time reading about these magnificent trees.

It is so peaceful walking among these giants of the rain forest.
We saw many very unusual trees.
The water was abundant!

Billy and Paula through the trunk of an old tree.
Look how big this tree was.  It is a small one in this forest!
Just compare us to the height of these trees.  And you can't even see the top of them.
Joan's beautiful smiling face!
Billy dwarfed by an old growth tree.
Windstorms can do a lot of dammage.  One blew through here and tumbled many a huge tree.
There is no way to reach around this one.
Yikes!  They are getting bigger!

Billy and I could have spent all day in this forest, but Joan and Paula were ready to go so they high tailed it back to the car while we hiked another couple of miles.  We eventually decided we needed to go back to and so we headed on down the road.
