Mt. Saint Helens Comes Back Alive

After the 1980 eruption the trees were gone.  In many areas the lumber companies harvested what they could of the downed trees and then they replanted the areas.  This photo is of the replanted trees.  You can immediately tell the difference between the natural growth forest and the planted trees.  Just stare at this photo and you will feel like you are getting blurred vision.

The forest around Mt. Saint Helen is back but it isn't the old growth forest that was there before 1980.

The animals have come back too!
As we drove away from Mt. Saint Helens we could see the Olympic Mountains in the distance!  Those are our next objective after spending a night in Olympia, Washington.
