Weekend at the Log Cabin in the Plains

Joan couldn't wait one more day to see Brody. I think he was pretty happy to see Joan, I mean Namaw, too! When he woke up and Staci brought him downstairs, we hopped out of bed even though we had arrived in Kansas after 1 a.m. Joan knew that Brody would be in a happy mood and she wanted to see those early morning smiles. It was worth it too!


Mike had to work on Friday, so he had already left for work. Staci and I took all four dogs, Missy, Molly, Trevor, and Remington in to the vet's office for shots and teeth cleaning at 8:30 a.m. while Joan played with Brody. After that little trip we got to play with Brody all day - except for when he had to take naps. It was fun teaching him how to play guitar, both a six string and a twelve string guitar. Brody acted as a capo for one song. (See Mike and Staci's blog for photos on the guitar lesson.) Mike came home and Brody laughed and smiled to see him.

Friday night Staci and Mike fixed Itallian MeatBall Sandwiches for supper and we watched a really good movie called "The World's Fastest Indian".

Saturday morning Staci, Mike, and Joan fixed a big breakfast while Brody and I played guitar and sang. Then Mike finished building the fireplace and I loaded some concrete into the back of the truck. Joan and Staci cleaned upstairs and then organized Brody clothes in his room. Of course, every so often - both Friday and Saturday - Joan and I would take Brody and some of the dogs on a short hike. Brody loves it in the backpack.

Saturday night we ate delicious hamburgers that Staci cooked on the grille then we played with Brody until his bed time. Joan and I got to take him up to his bed and sing songs to him just like we used to do with our kids when they were little.

We watched a Perry mason episode "The Case of the One Eyed Witness" and an Andy Griffith episode "The Loaded Goat". Actually Staci and Joan fell asleep, but Mike and I watched it.

Sunday morning we all dressed up and took Brody with us to church. He sure attracts a lot of attention! We ate fried chicken for lunch and then we left around 4 p.m. and drove back to Texas in the rain. The rain actually washed most of the Kansas mud off the Durango before we got home! I think Joan is ready to go back already!
