Of course, I had a list of 14 chores I wanted to get accomplished on Saturday and the first one was to wash the Mitsubishi Eclipse. Brody was more than willing to help as long as he could get wet.
My chores came to a screeching halt when I suddenly remembered that Lake Arlington had opened a new Kayaking path this last week. Brody and I put one our kayaks on the trailer that Joan's uncle Carroll built and I pulled Brody in the Kayak down to the lake.
Brody waved at each car that passed us on busy Perkins Road and the people all smiled and waved back. The bright yellow kayak with Brody's little head sticking up was hard to miss!
It was a hot day in Texas so I was glad to reach the lake park and launch our kayak.
Brody and I paddled around the lake looking at birds, watching motorboats take off fast, seeing the fishermen patiently waiting for a bite, and occasionally hearing a fish pop out of the water and land with a splash.
On the trip back home we went up some steep hills and Brody didn't seem to notice. I on the other hand was strategically choosing which side of the street had more shade. Perkins is really hilly but it was so much fun to walk on it with the kayak because we got the most attention there. Brody loves the attention ;-)
Oh... on the way, I decided it was a good time to see if Brody was old enough to chew a piece of gum. Staci had tried it before and he just swallowed it. I figured that riding in a kayak on city streets would give him time to focus on chewing the gum instead of swallowing. He did it! And here is a photo to prove it!
And just to be on the safe side, I taught him that you don't throw gum on the ground. I didn't trust Namaw or Staci to teach him this rule.

Thanks for playing with Brody today! I wish that I had see you walking down Perkins with him in the kayak!
It makes me think of walking down the creek to Jackson Park.....did you sing The Ants Go Marching One By One? How blessed we are to get to spend so much time with our grandchildren! Someday, he will call it Daddy Steve and Namaw's house.
